Why the name "Heretic?"
Heretic Coffee Co. exists to disrupt consumer coffee culture by advocating for community instead of just a caffeine fix. We empower our community through our Common Good Program, which provides funding and training to create businesses that create justice & equity in the city of Portland. At the same time, we make the best cup of coffee you’ve ever had. Another way we say that is:
drink good coffee, make good things.

Where do you source your coffee beans?
Our coffee beans are farmed from a family of coffee farmers from Genuine Origin. Genuine Origin is creating safe working environments, keeping coffee beans away from harsh chemicals, and making sure each farmer has ample pay for their labor. You can learn more about Genuine Origin's policies, our coffee beans and the family farm here.
You can also find a more specific look at the family of farmers we sourced from under each coffee product listing.
Why choose to start local businesses?
We believe in the heart of Portland, Oregon - and that heart lives and dies by the every common people who make this city move forward - hence our name for the Common Good Program. Josh White, our owner and founder, run the incubator for our Common Good program out of his studio in Southeast Portland. Every Wednesday, he works with our folks who are in residency. At the end of the year, we divide up all our profit between our new entrepenuers and send them on their way...then next year, start the entire process over.
Our vision is to start 50 new businesses in the next ten years. With your support through our coffee, we can make this dream become a reality.
