The word “heretic” means “to disrupt the established institution of something.” We exist to disrupt consumer coffee culture by advocating for community instead of a caffeine fix - and at the same time, bringing awareness to how consuming coffee can positively or negatively affect our world.

We live out our name in three ways: 

1. Paying coffee farms their worth. 20 million people around the world rely on coffee for their livelihoods, and 80% of them live in poverty, despite the rising price of retail coffee. We work with two different coffee farms in Colombia and Ethiopia to make sure they are paid as best as possible for their labor. 

2. (COMING SOON) Sustainable, Electrified Roasting. Every year, 41 billion pounds of carbon are produced by roasting coffee alone, affecting our climate and threatening the future of coffee farms. By roasting electronically, we’re eliminating fossil fuels from the coffee roasting process, helping to eliminate thousands of pounds of CO2e. Here soon, Heretic will house an electric coffee roaster from Bellwether Coffee, so we can play our part in caring for our planet.

Creating New Jobs. Most third-wave coffee shops require a minimum two years of experience. We’re disrupting that metric by giving you the best training possible for the coffee world. Our volunteers receive hands-on experience and training in every aspect of being a barista. We also offer coffee roasting education and experience in sourcing green coffee. The best part?
